Future Farm.

It all started with goats. And the idea of cheese, of tending to something every single day of the year.

We knew we liked each other, a lot. We wanted to spend all of our time together doing real things, that mattered.

Thirsty for the urgency of living things, plants and animals, we left home. We took the scenic route across country, and back, in search of answers about the reality of the small farm. We followed a constellation of goat farms—there were Nubians, Nigerian dwarfs, mixed herds. There was a miniature donkey, pastured pigs, blue eggs and summer thunderstorms. There were 5 gallon buckets of water and blizzards. Fruits and vegetables. There were culled animals and ticks in the hay.

Four wood stoves, a winter in an off-grid yurt, and 3 years later, the dream continues. Future Farm found us, an exposed southern slope nestled in the forest on a ridge up off of Highway 30, west of the Columbia River, 670 feet above sea level.

We'll tend this land for our time here and for the future. We're planning and changing plans the more we learn the land. We're growing and learning and testing the waters.

Let the future begin.
